Da Vinci Robot Class Action

|

Da Vinci Robot Class ActionThe da Vinci Surgical System is a complex piece of machinery that has begun to take the place of traditional invasive abdominal procedures. As such, it has been used in thousands of hysterectomies and prostatectomies around the country, and is increasingly being used to perform other minimally invasive procedures. Of particular concern, however, are reports that these medical devices may result in the onset of serious, life-threatening injuries. Therefore, those that have sustained injuries from robotic surgery may be eligible to partake in a da Vinci Robot class action lawsuit. Appropriate representation may result in substantial compensation.

Da Vinci Robot Class Action Overview

The da Vinci Surgical System was manufactured and developed by Intuitive Surgical Incorporated. The medical device provides surgeons with an alternative means of preforming traditionally invasive procedures around the abdomen. As such, the machine consists of four remote controlled arms that are designed to give surgeons a range of movement greater than that of the human hand. Furthermore, its use allows surgeons to preform procedures without making large and invasive incisions, allowing for a shorter recovery period. Computer controlled precision allows healthcare professionals to preform hysterectomies, prostatectomies, gastric bypasses, gall bladder removals and thyroid cancer surgeries.

According to The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), adding this expensive technology for routine surgical care does not improve patient outcomes. Reports indicate there is a steep learning curve with new surgical technologies, during which there is an increased complication rate. Therefore, due to the relatively new addition of the da Vinci Surgical System to the medical field, patients receiving treatment from the device may be at an increased risk of being seriously injured.
